Silver Service: A George II Salver

Silver Service:
A George II Salver

The arms are those of Barrington quartering Shute for William Wildman, 2nd. Viscount Barrington, who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Treasurer of the Navy and Secretary of War.

With such a piece it is important to emphasise provenance. The Viscount’s illustrious career, notably his long tenure at the War Office and involvement with strategy during the American War of Independence, made him a significant figure in mid-eighteenth century politics.

Our careful and thorough research was important in ensuring the salver was sold successfully at auction.
